RECORDING STUDIO FAQ
WHAT KIND OF RECORDING CAN I DO AT MARKEE?
Markee’s senior engineers are remarkably skilled and versatile. We specialize in tracking, mixing, editing, and mastering. We typically cater to either the individual or band needs and we’re always conscious about working within a budget. Whether you do one song or 10, bring in an old project that needs cleanup, voice-over, or most anything you need to be recorded, that’s what we do.
IS THERE GEAR TO USE IN THE STUDIO?
Quite frankly, the recording suite and live room are the most expensive rooms in Markee by far.
We provide guitar amps, a keyboard amp, a bass amp, and a 5 piece drum kit complete with cymbals
and hardware to use during your sessions. Not to mention our stellar collection of outboard gear in the control room and ISO booths to create a world-class recording.
CAN I BRING MY OWN GEAR?
Absolutely! If you’re more comfortable with your own gear, no problem,. However, if you think you’re gear may not be suitable for recording, we will have gear for you to use!
CAN YOU SUPPLY MUSICIANS IF I DON'T HAVE A BAND?
Yes, we can! MARKEE has a team of top-notch musicians that can play any style of music. You would be charged for each musician either by the song or by the hour depending on the session! Subject to availability at the time of reservation!
HOW DO I RESERVE A RECORDING SESSION?
All you have to do is give us a call to check for availability and give us a credit card to reserve the room. We do book up very quickly so try to book your session as soon as possible to ensure the availability of the time that you want for your session.
WHAT PAYMENT TYPES DO YOU ACCEPT?
You may pay for your studio with Cash, Debit Card, or Major Credit Card!
WHAT IS YOUR CANCELLATION POLICY?
For recording, please give 2 days’ notice. If you need to cancel within the 2 day period, there is a 25% cancellation fee for the 2 days prior and a 100% fee if you cancel the day of the scheduled recording.
CAN I BOOK ONLINE OR VIEW AVAILABILITY?
No. We’re old fashion…give us a call.
CAN I BRING MY FRIENDS TO WATCH?
The control room is the most serious place of business. It’s loaded with gear. That said, if we have the room you’re more than welcome.
CAN I EAT, DRINK, OR SMOKE IN THE STUDIO?
You may eat and drink right outside the recording studio in the back lounge area, or in the break room, but we prefer not inside the recording studio. You may smoke outside where we have provided a smoking area in the back of the building!
HOW MUCH IS THE RECORDING STUDIO?
The recording studio is booked by the hour! Prices are posted for hourly rates on our website. We don’t allow outside contractors to use the studio without one of our engineers present for at least the 1st 3 hours. Engineers renting the recording studio and individual project prices can be discussed in person. Just call to schedule an appointment!
CAN I GET CD's DUPLICATED AT MARKEE?
We can give you up to 3 CDs. That said, we do recommend 3rd party providers that have been proven and reputable.
CAN I GET MY SONGS PROGRAMMED IF I DON'T WANT TO USE A LIVE BAND?
Absolutely! We will set up a meeting with one of our programmers to figure out the best way to produce your song or songs!
CAN I RECORD A HYBRID VERSION OF MY SONG WITH ME PLAYING LIVE OVER PROGRAMMED DRUMS?
Yes, you can have the drums programmed first, then simply set up your session to record live guitar, bass, and vocals over the top of the drum tracks!
IF I'M A VOCALIST AND WANT TO RECORD OVER TACKS, CAN I DO THIS AT MARKEE?
You absolutely can! You bring in the tracks either in CD or mp3 format and we’ll take it from there.
You will have to pre-arrange what songs you’re going to do with your MARKEE engineer!
CAN I TAKE MY SESSION HOME?
Yes. But remember, thumb drive transfers are slow. If you do a 2-hour recording session, it could take 30-60 minutes or more to transfer your session (the extra time will be added to your bill).
A USB hard drive will transfer much faster and is preferred.
Time for the transfer of data should be reserved toward the end of the session and is done during the time you've booked. We can also email you the MP3, or share MP3 files with you via Dropbox or WeTransfer.
DO YOU CHARGE FOR STEMS?
You must book time with the studio for the export and collection of your instrument stems. Speak with your engineer to determine, based on the size of your project, how long this will likely take. For a single song, this may be done in 5-10 minutes at the end of your last session. If you're working on a large project this could take a couple of hours at least.
